Poetry Group
Poetry Group
Two taster sessions for the new Poetry Group, led by Christine Webb, were held on 29th April in the Library and both sessions were well attended.
Christine opened by looking at why we use poetry to express emotions, record events and deal with issues we might otherwise find difficult.
She proposed that the group should be a reading group, rather than composing and that it might look at what sorts of poems should be studied, the effects that those poems have on the reader, on themes and topics such as love, human behaviour or the natural world, and tastes and preferences. It might also look at the shapes of poems, the different forms which they take from sonnets and traditional forms to “free verse”.
It was decided to meet on the third Tuesday evening each month, from 7.30pm to 9.00pm with a 10 minute break in the middle, in the Library. Initially, there would be a series of eight meeting to the end of the year.
There were a number of costs to be covered in terms of room hire, photocopying and sundry expenses and a fee of £5.00 per session was agreed. To make the accounting simple it was agreed that participants would contribute three months in advance (£15) to get the group started.
If you would like to join the Group, please contact Christine on 01628 666159 or email her on [email protected], or come along to the first meeting.
